The Origins of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The exact origins of traditional Chinese medicine are vague as much of its development occurred before written history. The use of plants as medicine can be dated back to origin of mankind. As early man experimented with new plants in search of food, he also began to discover the effects these plants had on the human body. The exact origin of acupuncture is not known, but the use of medical tools dates back well into the Stone Age.

Many medical texts were written in ancient history, but most did not survive the test of time. We are not sure how much was really known about acupuncture and herbal medicine in very early times. The first medical books to appear were quite advanced and indicate that there was probably a great deal of medical development before them.

Although the use of herbal medicine and acupuncture tools began much earlier, the origin of the Chinese medical system is probably about 2,500 years old. The Yellow Emperor's Internal Classic (Huang Di Nei Jing) was written in about 200-300 BC and it included the first explanations of the pathological concept, diagnostic method, and treatment strategy. The theories described in this book and others to follow make up the system known as traditional Chinese medicine.

MSN and related webs all cant be access! GRR, so new way to 'send' project to friend ! VIA BLOG. ;\

Area A:
This section will contain information applicable to the teenagers’ lifestyles. This is to allow these youths who are attending to be more interested in how they can help themselves further through the use of traditional medicine.
Exhibition with display boards will also be here, displaying all the information the people need to know about TM. There will be people to explain to them more about what all these information are about and help them further understand it. Interesting facts like ‘The Four Techniques’– Listening, smelling, asking and palpating, is performed on patients when a TM doctor diagnose a patient. There are also 7 emotions namely; joy, anger, sadness, grief, pensiveness, fear, and fright that are connected with health of an individual when treating diseases using TCM. This is also what makes TM different from MM, as through this Four Techniques and 7 emotions, the patient is more deeply diagnosed. Something different and not known by many people like these information will sure interest people to want to understand more about it.
Of course, TM of different races will be available at the display, like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Traditional Malay Medicine (TMM) and Traditional Indian Medicine (TIM) as not everyone accepts all kinds of TM. We will collaborate with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and they will set up a booth to promote the majors they offer on TCM, lecturers will explain to the people there who are interested in the course.
